As part of the democratization of vaping, models of electronic cigarettes and e-liquids are multiplying. Consequently, vapers, especially newcomers, often feel lost regarding the various technical terms used. Many of them wonder, among other things, what the PG/VG ratio means. Here’s an explanation of this term!
Propylene glycol: what is it?
PG or propylene glycol is a substance widely used in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food industries. In the electronic cigarette holder, this liquid allows you to transfer the flavor of the e-liquid in the best possible way. In fact, it serves to enhance the success and fix the flavors. On the other hand, PG produces very little vapor.

What about vegetable glycerin?
VG or vegetable glycerin is also found in food medications and pharmaceutical products. Unlike PG, it produces an abundance of vapor. For a good reason: VG is not only sweet and fatty. On the other hand, it tends to reduce the throat hit and flavors. It is also worth noting that VG tends to quickly wear out the resistance of clearomizers.
What is the significance of the PG/VG ratio?
PG and VG are the basic components of an e-liquid. Depending on the specific properties of these two substances, the PG/VG ratio will obviously have a significant impact on the type of vaping. It indicates the percentage of PG and that of VG present in the e-liquid. Therefore, it is not the total of these two elements, but the share of one to the other.

What PG/VG ratio should you choose for your e-liquid?
A 100% PG e-liquid allows you to enjoy a very strong throat hit, but without vapor. To achieve a good balance between vapor, flavors, and throat hit, it is best to focus on 80/20 or 70/30 ratios. For vapers who want a large amount of vapor, it is necessary to switch to an e-liquid with a relatively high level of VG. In this case, preference is given to ratios of 50/50, 40/60, or 30/70. 100% VG e-liquids or those with a 20/80 ratio are more likely to be reserved for cloud chasers. These products have sweet flavors with almost no throat hit.
The other criterion to consider when choosing the PG/VG ratio
It is also important to consider the type of resistance before choosing the PG/VG ratio. First of all, it is necessary to prioritize liquid e-liquids, meaning those that are primarily composed of PG when using a resistance with tight airflow. In fact, an incorrect choice can lead to a dry hit (burnt taste), as well as premature wear of the resistance. Additionally, there are resistances equipped with larger airflow openings. Larger sizes are suitable for thick e-liquids. Otherwise, e-liquid leakage is ensured.
